Counseling Calendar

Dear Senior Parents,

Financial Aid night has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 14th at 7 pm in the Auditorium.

Here is the summary: Dan Davenport, director of the Financial Aid Department at UI will present information about financial aid and the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), required to be completed for all students seeking any form of financial aid. Please plan to attend this very important session. FAFSA forms for graduating seniors can be submitted beginning January 1, and take time to complete. The sooner this form is completed and submitted, the sooner your senior (and you!) begin to get financial aid award letters indicating the cost of attendance at his/her schools of choice.

If you are eager to get working on the FAFSA form, please go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and have your student start a new application. They will need a lot of your help and tax information to complete this form. Work can be saved and completed at a later date. Students should also apply for their federal pin number at www.pin.ed.gov if they have not already done so.

While waiting for financial aid night, students can be checking out the scholarship link on our counseling center website at msd281.org/mhs under the counseling center tab, and use the scholarship search engines such as www.fastweb.com and www.collegexpress.com. It takes time to sort through potential scholarships and apply, so if your senior is serious about supplementing their financial aid award, it is important to take some time to do this. Parents can help their students by helping keep track of deadlines, application requirements, proofreading application essays if requested, etc.

There is also lots of helpful information and resources in the counseling center and counselor Diana Hicke can meet with students regarding college applications and scholarship opportunities.

Please feel free to call Char at 208-882-2591 if you have questions or concerns or would like to set up an appointment.
